With its gorgeous architecture, temperate climate and abundance of wildlife in the immediate vicinity of the city, Dunedin stands out as one of the most beautiful cities in New Zealand. We had the pleasure of visiting “Edinburgh of the South” a couple of times and while there, being avid foodies that we are, we made it a mission to find the best vegan eats in Dunedin! Here are 3 of our favorites in no particular order:
VEGAN DATE SCONE – POTPOURRI CAFÉ
In the center of town stands a charming little vegetarian café called Potpourri that offers, in their words, the best wholemeal vegan date scones in the world! And believe us when we tell you they’re not lying! Apart from a varied menu including multiple vegan options, the inviting brick-meets-wood interior and relaxed atmosphere makes you not want to leave this place – like, ever.
VEGAN BURGER – THE JOYFUL VEGAN, OTAGO FARMERS MARKET
The Dunedin Railway Station is the place to be on a Saturday morning, when the Otago Farmers Market brings together hundreds of people from the region. Among heaps of vendors selling fresh local produce, you’ll find The Joyful Vegan, a family-owned food truck selling vegan eats all made from scratch. Grab their signature burger, take a seat next to the caravan and take in the market spirit!
VEGAN PIZZA – FILADELFIO’S
One of the reasons we keep coming back to this New York-inspired pizzeria is the fact that their menu actually includes a vegan pizza (a rare find, we might add)! The other reason is slightly more obvious – the pizza! Yummy and filling, this vegan pizza is easily one of the best we’ve ever had and comes with our all-time favorite, sundried tomatoes. Yum!
Would you add any to the list? What is your go-to place for vegan deliciousness in Dunedin?
